Exploring Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface Technology for Optimal End-to-End Connectivity
This project explores Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) technology for optimal end-to-end connectivity. RIS has the potential to artificially reconfigure the wireless propagation environment for a variety of applications, improving capacity, coverage, security, and sustainability.
In this project, NPL will utilise its large-scale RIS prototype system, state-of-the-art anechoic chamber and 5G software defined radio (SDR) testbed. In collaboration with Imperial College (IC) and Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), we aim to identify effective optimisation strategies to support the further advancement of RIS technology.
The developed technology will support energy-efficient coverage-enhanced wireless communications in rural areas and tackle mobile ‘not-spots’ where there is a significant need for better mobile connections.
