Building on Bangor University’s recent proof-of-principle demonstration, this project will demonstrate converged fibre mmWave networks with dynamic wavelength and sub-wavelength-level traffic routing and without optical-electrical/electrical-optical conversion. It will also support concurrent radio and optical multiple access.

The networks not only provide high-capacity, low-latency and ubiquitous end-to-end connections, but also enhance network flexibility, scalability, and adaptability.

We are working closely with two leading UK research laboratories including the DSP Centre and the Optoelectronics Research Centre (University of Southampton). Both labs have diverse and complementary expertise and state-of-the-art experimental facilities. We will also be conducting field trials using the Bangor University 5G testbed, the National Dark Fibre Facility (NDFF) and the JOINER infrastructure.
